Surface should be clean, dull and dry before application. Remove gray, mildew or dirt before applying product. Penetrates best on new wood that is exposed to outdoor elements for 1-2weeks prior to staining or sealing. WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. Contact the national lead information hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or

If wood has a previous coating or is gray it must be cleaned prior to application of new coating.

    1. The best method to preparing wood surfaces is to sand with 80-150 grit sandpaper. Another alternative to sanding is to use example. Remove Gray on wood with a (TSP) solution or chemical brightener.

    a. Wet surface with clean water, do not let surface dry.

    b. Wash wood with 4 ounces of Powdered Tri-sodium Phosphate (TSP) or a phosphate free substitute with one gallon of water.

    c. Scrub surface with synthetic steel wood or a hard bristle brush and let solution sit on the wood for 10-15 minutes. (Do not let solutions dry on wood surface- keep wet).

    d. Wash surface with clean water and allow surface to dry for 48 hours.

    e. For a high quality appearance, lightly sand wood with 180-220 sandpaper.

    f. Remove all sanding dust with a broom or vacuum. Remove fine dust with acetone.

WOOD PREVIOUSLY VARNISHED OR OILED: Test small area of wood to ensure adhesion and appearance. Discoloration in Varnish or oil must be removed prior to application of Primo Teak Sealer.

If previous varnish /oil are discolored, thick, peeling or chipping old coating must be removed. It is NOT RECOMMENDED to apply Primo Teak Sealer over badly damaged wood prior to stripping old coating. Varnish / Oil can be removed by sanding with 60-80 grit sandpaper or the use of a chemical STRIPPER, follow instruction on can.

    1. For quick application use a staining pad or application pad. For High-end work use a long haired natural bristle brush or HPLV cup sprayer.

    2. Use gloves and drop cloths to reduce mess.

    1. Remove lid and stir until completely mixed in can. (Do not shake)

    2. Make sure wood is dry and free from dust. Apply with an Application pad, long haired natural bristle brush or HPLV cup sprayer. Keep wet edges to prevent lap marks. (Do not apply in hot sun or wet weather. Only apply when surface and air temp is 50 F/10 C to 95 F/35 C.)

    3. For best performance we recommend a total of 2-3 coats with additional top coat of Clear Shield. Allow 24 hrs drying time between coats.

    4. For Smooth finishes allow 24 hours and lightly scuff surfaces in-between coats, use only a nylon scuffing pad (do not sand between coats)

    5. Clean brushes with mineral spirits or paint-thinner. Difficult stains may be cleaned with acetone or paint-thinner. Use soap and water to clean hands.

Maintenance coats should be routinely preformed by simply removing discoloration by sanding with 180-220 grit sandpaper and re-apply top coat of Primo Teak Sealer. If wood has been neglected, follow steps under CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS. Although weathering and exposure conditions can vary widely, we recommend a maintenance coat every 2 to 3 years to compensate for environmental wear and tear. SPECIAL NOTE: Spills on gelcoat (fiberglass) should be wiped up immediately. If gelcoat becomes stained, clean with mineral spirits. Difficult stains may be cleaned with acetone, but DO NOT allow excess acetone to remain on gelcoat.

COVERAGE: Varies with wood porosity, but generally 85 ft per quart.

NOTE: Before job application prepare a two coat test sample on your wood to confirm desired color result. Continuous high humidity and/ or poor ventilation of the wood substrate may cause failure of this product.
